One of Namibia's most beloved annual traditions is back, and this week the Windhoek Showgrounds transforms into the country's biggest stage for agriculture, trade, and community celebration.

The 72nd edition of the Windhoek Agricultural Show has officially opened its gates, running across five full days of exhibitions, funfair rides, and bustling trade halls.

This year's edition arrives with notable upgrades - chief among them a significantly expanded funfair section, bringing a wider and more thrilling lineup of rides to the Windhoek Showgrounds.

For many families, the ride section has long been the emotional heartbeat of the event, but organisers are urging visitors not to overlook the commercial and agricultural halls that define the show's deeper purpose.

Close to 200 stalls have been filled across every exhibition hall on the grounds, drawing businesses, farmers, craftspeople, and retailers from across the country and beyond.

International interest has also grown, with companies from neighbouring countries represented this year - using the show to connect with Namibian retailers, explore distribution networks, and forge new trade relationships.

In an arid country where livestock underpins both commercial and communal livelihoods, the agricultural section of the show remains one of its most critical offerings, giving breeders and farmers a rare national platform to compare stock and do serious business.

What sets this year apart is the strong private sector response, with organisers expressing confidence that corporate and commercial participation has reached a new high.

Attendance patterns tend to follow a familiar rhythm - modest crowds in the opening days, followed by a surge as the week builds toward the weekend.

Gate numbers during the final two days are expected to push well past 45 000 visitors, making those closing sessions the most electric of the entire run.

The Windhoek Agricultural Show has roots stretching back to 1899, and its evolution into a full-scale industrial and agricultural fair reflects just how central the event has become to Namibia's economic and cultural calendar.

Gates are open daily from 10h00 through to 23h00, giving visitors a full day and evening to take in everything the showgrounds have to offer.

Adult tickets are priced at N$50, with schoolgoing children admitted for N$30 - and entrance remains free for younger children and pensioners, ensuring the show stays accessible to all corners of the community.
