Namibia's oil and gas sector takes center stage this week as the annual Namibia Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (NOGC) opened in Windhoek, running 18–20 August.

Hosted by the Economic Association of Namibia alongside key government and industry partners, the three-day event brings together global investors, policymakers, academics, and civil society under the theme "From Decision to Dividend: Making Namibia's Oil Work for Namibians."

The Goethe-Institut Namibia has unveiled its new Windhoek premises, aiming to become a vibrant hub for cultural exchange, creative collaboration, and learning. Director Dennis Schroeder emphasized that the evolving space will host a wide array of events, from German language exams and literary gatherings to theatre, music, film, and book projects.

The Omdis Artist Residency Exhibition has brought a vibrant collection of woven, painted, and mixed media works from Oranjemund to the Namibia Arts Association in Windhoek.

This showcase features the creative expressions of Lynette Diergaardt, Susanne Blochberger, and Haymich Olivier—each artist expanding their practice and collaborating with local talents during their residency at the Oranjemund Art Centre.

Highlights include Olivier’s nature-inspired paintings informed by a background in dance, Blochberger’s intricate fibre art, and Diergaardt’s striking woven portraits, all reflecting the spirit and stories of Oranjemund’s community.

The City of Windhoek is launching significant infrastructure upgrades in the Havana informal settlement after listening to residents’ concerns about unreliable water, poor sanitation, and public safety.

Officials announced plans for a new water treatment facility and expanded wastewater systems to improve access to clean water and sanitation, especially around Ongos Valley. Upgrades to roads, including the Eneas Peter Nanyemba intersection, are set to resume once relocation matters are resolved, while residents have also called for traffic safety measures and enhanced public security.

Mayor Sakaria Uunona emphasized that community feedback is driving these changes.
