In the heart of Windhoek, one of Namibia's most enduring financial institutions has once again earned the kind of recognition that markets pay close attention to.

Bank Windhoek has secured a maintained Bank Windhoek credit rating of AA+(NA) on the long-term national scale issuer rating, reaffirmed by independent agency GCR Ratings - a result that carries real weight in the regional financial landscape.

The Stable Outlook attached to that rating is no formality - it signals sustained institutional confidence at a time when Namibia's broader economy continues to navigate shifting headwinds.

Alongside the long-term designation, the short-term issuer rating of A1+(NA) was equally maintained, while the South African national scale long-term issuer rating was affirmed at A+(ZA), also carrying a Stable Outlook.

The GCR rating Namibia review drew on audited financial results, loan book composition, funding structures, and industry-wide comparative data - a thorough process that leaves little room for flattery.

What emerged from that review was a picture of a bank that has built its standing on more than just numbers.

Assessors pointed to Bank Windhoek's deeply entrenched presence across Namibia, its disciplined approach to risk management, robust capitalisation levels, and consistently adequate liquidity as the cornerstones underpinning the outcome.

The bank's governance framework drew particular praise, with reviewers noting that its strategic execution and integration of sustainability principles into core operations represent a model of mature institutional leadership.

For everyday Namibians, these ratings translate into something tangible - the assurance that the institution holding their savings, processing their salaries, and financing their homes remains on solid ground.

Managing Director James Chapman framed the outcome not as a corporate milestone but as a reflection of values that have shaped the bank across decades.

He described the result as proof that trust - earned through responsible decisions, sound governance, and an unwavering commitment to ethical conduct - remains the bank's most durable asset.

Chapman also emphasised that the bank's role stretches well beyond its balance sheet, extending to the protection of trust placed in it by customers, employees, shareholders, and the Namibian economy at large.

That sense of obligation to the broader community is increasingly rare - and increasingly valued - in modern banking.

On the capital side, the bank reported a Tier 1 capital ratio of 18.6% and a leverage capital ratio of 12.0%, while its liquidity coverage ratio reached 216.3% - comfortably exceeding regulatory thresholds.

The national scale issuer rating also reflects the bank's commanding 31.5% share of Namibia's national lending market, a position reinforced by its expanding branch footprint and growing digital service channels.

In a competitive regional banking environment, retaining top-tier independent recognition is never guaranteed - making this affirmation all the more meaningful.
