The Windhoek Golf Club delivered one of its most memorable weekends of competitive play as the 2026 Ongos Windhoek Open wrapped up with drama, heat, and golf of the highest local standard.

Likius Nande emerged from a demanding field of 103 players as the last man standing under par - a feat that tells its own story about the weekend's brutal conditions and the depth of talent on show.

Nande posted a three-round total of 215, the only competitor across the entire field to finish below the par mark, sealing the overall best gross title by three clear strokes over Namibia's top-ranked junior golfer, Sam Nel.

His rounds of 72, 71, and 72 reflected a calm and measured campaign - steady where others stumbled, precise where the course punished hesitation.

Nel pushed hard through the middle rounds, firing a second-round 69 that briefly raised the prospect of a tighter finish, but a closing 76 left him stranded at 218, unable to close the gap.

The contest unfolded across 17 and 18 October, drawing more than 100 competitors who made the journey from across Namibia and South Africa - a turnout that speaks to the tournament's growing regional reputation.

What elevated this edition beyond a routine result was the visible quality of the next generation competing shoulder-to-shoulder with the country's most seasoned players, with junior golfers featuring prominently in the leading groups throughout the weekend.

A relentless heatwave and challenging green complexes tested every player's composure, yet the Windhoek Golf Club layout held firm as a worthy examination of talent.

The battle for net honours proved equally compelling.

Simon Heinrich claimed the overall best net title with a total of 218, edging out Antonio Gamito, who finished a single stroke behind at 219.

In the ladies' division, Anecia Le Grange swept the overall best gross prize with a commanding two-round total of 172, leaving Anja Wessels well back at 187 in the runner-up position.

Namibia Amateur Golf Union president and Windhoek Golf Club captain Toady Gurirab praised the partnership with Ongos Valley that made the event possible, reserving particular recognition for those who travelled considerable distances to compete.

The involvement of tournament organiser Dan Zwibel, club management, course staff, marshals, and starters drew specific acknowledgment - a reminder that a weekend of elite Windhoek Open golf rarely happens without a small army behind the scenes.

Nande himself described the Ongos Windhoek Open as the finest tournament in the country - high praise that reflects both its organisation and the standard it consistently draws.

The result cements his place as one of Namibian golf's most reliable performers and leaves the golfing community here eager to see what the next edition will bring.

Been following Namibian amateur golf for years and Nande keeps delivering at the big moments. Consistent as they come.

My husband played this year and said the heat on Saturday afternoon was something else. Respect to everyone who finished.

Nande saying it's the finest tournament in the country is quite a statement when you think about the competition out there.

Would love to know how the junior golfers placed individually. The article mentions they did well but no names.

Three shots clear is a comfortable win but doing it in that field of 103 makes it mean a lot more.

Marshals and starters work so hard at these tournaments and almost nobody notices. Nice that it got a mention.

I play at Windhoek Golf Club every weekend and those greens in October are no joke. Fast and tricky.

Antonio Gamito one shot off the net title. One shot. Golf is painful.

Anja Wessels finishing 15 back in the ladies gross must sting a little. Le Grange was in a different gear completely.

72 71 72 is such a tidy scorecard. No blow up rounds, just solid golf from start to finish.

Toady Gurirab always shows up for these events. Good to have a club captain who actually cares.

A closing 76 from Nel after a 69 in round two. Golf is a cruel sport sometimes.

Sam Nel shooting a 69 in round two and still losing by three shots tells you everything about how good Nande was.

Likius is just built different. Three rounds under par in that heat is no joke.
