Windhoek residents and business owners have been placed on notice as the city launches a sweeping municipal service disconnection drive targeting accounts with outstanding utility arrears.

The operation is rooted in the city's credit control policy and applicable municipal legislation, covering every suburb across the capital without exception.

For thousands of households already stretched thin, the warning carries real and immediate weight.

Officials confirmed that the mass disconnection exercise will roll out progressively, with Windhoek Block township earmarked as the first area targeted - a clear signal that no community will be spared from enforcement.

Account holders are required to cooperate with field teams and grant access to their premises as stipulated under the credit control policy framework.

Refusal to comply could expose residents to additional charges well beyond the original outstanding balance.

The backdrop to this action is a staggering municipal debt burden accumulated over years of non-payment across water, electricity, rates, and taxes.

Despite previous debt relief schemes and payment incentives, the city's debtors' book has remained stubbornly large, pushing officials toward more aggressive credit control action.

Residents holding overdue utility arrears notices are urged to act before disconnection teams reach their door - by settling balances in full or making formal arrangements through the Debt Management Division.

The Credit Control Division is available to account holders wishing to negotiate terms, review accounts, or confirm reconnection requirements.

The city has also flagged rising concerns about individuals impersonating municipal workers - residents should verify identities before granting any access to their property.

This enforcement wave makes clear that consistent payment is now essential to sustaining basic service delivery across Windhoek.

Residents are encouraged not to wait for a formal municipal service disconnection notice - acting early remains the simplest and least costly path forward.
